Aniya (adoption pending)

Update 8/6/10: I met the girls at the kennel today--what sweeties they both are! Ani is calm and quietly affectionate, with an A+ dane lean. She's happy to look to her people for direction and comfort and wanted nothing more than to jump in the car and be off to her new home.

Ani tested well with another female dane. She was polite and calm and settled in quickly. She walks well on leash--no pulling or tugging. She's a true gem of a find in a sturdy body with a big heart, waiting to love her forever home. We originally wanted to keep the girls together, but after meeting both alone, they would be fine if separated and placed with another dog. Ani lived with a cat for most of her life.

Ani is the smaller of the two girls. They look remarkably alike, even for sisters. Both girls are overweight but they are also built along the heavier European lines, solid as linebackers. Both girsl are just adorable and so sweet.

Original 7/24/10: Aniya and Bronte came in from Northern VA, where they've had a lot of changes in the last few months. They spent their first 7 years in a quiet home with a couple, loved and happy. When their first family fell on hard times, the girls were rehomed into a busy home with children. Ani is the more outgoing and confident of the two, and Bronte more hesitant and cautious. Bronte was unable to cope with all of the activity and the children in their new home, and snapped at them when they came close to her bed (which was in the middle of high traffic area). To avoid having Bronte put to sleep by her new owner, we pulled the girls to a kennel in PA while we searched for a nice quiet home for them.

Please, these girls are bewildered and sad. Their entire lives have been turned upside down. They need a home to call their own, where they can love and be loved.

Ani & Bronte are in a kennel and need a foster or adoptive home.

Update 8/6/10: I met the girls at the kennel today--what sweeties they both are! Bronte is more anxious than Ani, looking around to make sure everything is OK. She, too, is sweet and quietly affectionate, leaning heavily into the nearest human. She takes direction well and takes treats gently.

Bronte tested well with another female dane with slow introductions. She was a bit too anxious at first, but soon calmed down once she figured out no harm would come to her. With slow introductions, she can be integrated with another dog. She's very good on leash and doesn't tug or pull, even when she was unsure about the other dog. She's a true gem of a find in a sturdy body with a big heart, waiting to love her forever home. We originally wanted to keep the girls together, but after meeting both alone, they would be fine if separated and placed with another dog. Bronte lived with a cat for most of her life.

We'll be dog testing further in the next week or so, as Bronte was fearful when she briefly met another dog on leash, shaking and barking at him.

Please, these girls are bewildered and sad. Their entire lives have been turned upside down. They need a home to call their own, where they can love and be loved.

Annie & Bronte are in a kennel and need a foster or adoptive home.

Peyton

Update 8/18/10: Peyton is safely ensconced in a foster home and is learning how to be part of a family. She's doing well with her foster sister provided there are no zoomies involved. She would do OK with a laid back companion and slow introductions. She walks very nicely on leash and has been great with kids and a busy household. She's a nice petite girl who deserves a home of her own and a family to love her.

Original 7/24/10: Peyton will be arriving in PA at the beginning of August. She is currently residing in the NC kennel, and has been there since Nov 2009. Peyton is a 3 year old black female with natural ears. She came to rescue from a shelter after being picked up as a stray. Peyton came in very thin and with calloused elbows and hips, so it appears she has spent a lot of time on hard surfaces. Since being in rescue, Peyton has begun to gain weight, regain her confidence and shiny coat and is becoming quite the pretty lady. She is male dogs and submissive female dogs. Cats are unknown, and she will only be placed with children over the age of 8. Peyton came to MAGDRL in November 2009.

<pictures to come>

Update 8/18/10: Lola is a true sweetheart. She's a beautiful, affectionate girl who is good with kids, has met cats and seems unperturbed and can live with younger male dogs. She is enjoying playing with a young foster sister but does not appreciate being reprimanded by a grumpy older male dane in the household. Lola is calm, loving and sweet. Lola loves children and lived with a 6 yr old girl who crawled all over her. She was very well cared for and is UTD on shots and heartworm negative. Lola loves people, men and women and is so happy to see anyone that her tail goes a mile a minute. She loves car rides and is wonderful in the car. She is well-behaved and has free run of the house while the family is away. Lola requires a 5 ft fence.
